The Harbour nestles at the foot of the town, surrounded on three sides by steeply ascending rows of terraced fishermen's cottages, crowned and guarded by the old All Saints Church. Understandably, the Harbour must be the focal point of Brixham. Here you will find the under-cover Fish Quay, where you can buy a wide variety of fresh fish.
The Resort of Brixham Harbour A monument to William Prince of Orange rises in haughty grandeur from the harbourside - often a favorite perch for the local seagulls who have no respect for title. You will also find a replica of Sir Francis Drake's ship the Golden Hind (see Attractions from the main index). Along the harbourside there are many displays of paintings by local artists, in true St. Tropez style. Stroll around the three sides of the harbour, or sit on the benches enjoying a drink from a nearby pub. Listen to local brass bands playing, attend open-air church services, and generally take in the sights, sounds and smells which will permeate your senses. Brixham town, with its cobbled streets, is within two minutes' strolling distance. Tucked away in a corner of The Quay, your youngsters will find a fairly discreet amusement arcade. Well, we have to move with the times - sometimes. And my nieces and nephew seem to like it... Brixham branch TCC acknowledges the contribution made to these pages by Jan Wright of BCD Webweavers. |
